Meet Our Owner Operators
President and Co-Founder of Cano Electric, Larry Cano, was first introduced into the electrical field by way of the VICA certification program in High School at Odessa High in Odessa, Texas. After graduating from High School in 1979 he went right in to working as an apprentice for an electrical contractor in Odessa, Texas and eventually found his way to DFW working along the way with several other electrical contractors.
In 1989 Larry started at McBride Electric and soon after received his Journeyman License. During his 17 years at McBride Electric he learned what it meant to be a service oriented company from many different perspectives – he served as Journeyman Electrician, Assistant Production Supervisor, Production Supervisor, Production Manager and Branch Manager.
In 2006, he moved to Prism Electric and started the Fort Worth branch as General Manager of the Service Division, he served in that capacity for 3 years. During that time he grew the branch from ground level to an annual revenue of $2.5 Million.
As a result of a family inheritance of $20,000 in 2009, Larry and his wife, Debbie Cano, decided it was time to act on Larry’s dream to start a company. One of the requirements for owning an electrical company is having a Master Electrician License, which required Larry to pass a difficult test which had a pass rate of approximately 20% at that time.
On April 23, 2009, which also happened to be the birthday of his late mother, Selia Cano, Larry passed the Master Electrician exam and in turn earned his Master Electrical License which allowed the roots of Cano Electric to grow.
Since starting Cano Electric, Larry has developed a reputation in the industry for providing outstanding service with fair and honest pricing. He is the embodiment of our slogan, “A Can Do Company.”
Dr. Debbie Cano
Like they always say, behind every great man stands a great woman. Chief Financial Officer and Co-Founder, Debbie Cano, supported and encouraged Larry throughout his career. It is because of her continued guidance that Cano Electric was made possible… and just in case you were wondering, no she didn’t write this bio! 🙂
Dr. Cano is an educator and started her career as a teacher at Shady Grove Christian Academy in Grand Prairie, Texas. She taught there from 1985 – 2001 when she left to teach for Keller ISD. She served in Keller ISD for years 9 and during that time held teaching, vice-principal and principal positons.
In 2010 she served as Adjunct Professor at Texas Christian University before moving to a Principal position in 2011 at Vandagriff Elementary in Aledo, Texas. After serving in Aledo, she made a leap to Denton ISD in 2013 as principal at McNair Elementary.
Dr. Cano was promoted to Director of Intervention Services for Denton ISD in May of 2016 and still serves in the role as well as serving as Adjunct Professor at Texas Woman’s University since 2015. Dr. Cano holds Teaching, Principal and Superintendent certifications. She also holds a Bachelors of Arts and Sciences from Dallas Baptist University, Masters in Education from Midwestern State University and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Dallas Baptist University.
At Cano Electric, she is a decision maker for financial investments and strategic planning. It was Dr. Cano’s inheritance from her Aunt Mary Ellen that enabled the seed money for Cano Electric’s initial start-up costs.
Larry and Debbie both believe that the influence of two great women, Aunt Mary Ellen and Selia Cano, are why Cano Electric is in existence today.
